Another film under my belt, yay! With this story, I really wanted to capture more sound bites and practice incorporating those into the film. I looove how it turned out.

MOMS! This blog post is for you. The bond between mama and child is like nothing else. I’ll be the first to tell you my mom is my best friend. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her love and support. Because of my relationship with my mom, I value motherhood sessions OH SO much. I want every mama out there to schedule a session with their little’s because YOU DESERVE IT.

You take care of everyone.
You don’t get sick days.
You work hard for your family everyday.
You deserve it.

Now that we have that established … This year motherhood sessions are taking place in the coziest, adorable studio in downtown Howell. When I first started exploring videography, I wasn’t sure what it would turn into. My passion remains with families. As I began learning more and more about family films, I only could describe this new venture one way - modern home movies. Because that is exactly what it is .. your family, in your home, making ordinary moments magical.

Thankfully, I have friends like the Dorchak’s. They are guinea pigs. And let me tell you - after this first film, I’m not stopping. We spent the afternoon playing, snuggling, and smashing cake (thanks Betty’s Bakes for both cakes!) Check out the video and photos from our lazy afternoon. Happy Birthday Reese! xo, k

Wide-awake newborns used to scare the CRAP out of me. I thought I HAD to photograph them sleeping. When I was first learning about newborn photography, every image I found was of a perfectly posed baby sleeping in basket, wrapped up like a cute peanut. I thought my clients wanted that. I would spend the majority of our sessions trying to get newborns to sleep. There was so much “shhhhing”. So much rocking. Playing hot potato with the paci. Too much heat (rumor has it newborns like to be warm. They can be so demanding seesh, lol JKKKK)

Now? It doesn’t matter if the baby is sleeping or wide-awake. I’ll photograph them in your arms, in their crib, and every spot in between. Lifestyle newborn photography changed the way I think about newborns. What if the baby is crying? I’ll probably continue to click my shutter so you can remember that moment when mama soothes her newborn during the early days.

For this session, baby Ian was wide-awake the whole time. And I LOVED it. He has such an old soul already. He held his stare for so long. He was super content being loved on by his family all morning.

These photos are just an example of why I chose lifestyle photography. No expectations of that perfectly posed photo. Just your family, doing you. This amazing mama text me later that night and said “this was the most chill photo session ever. We so appreciate that and it shows in the sweet pictures.”
