I'm a big fan of traditions, especially when it comes to the holiday season.  As I get older, I realize my favorite traditions have evolved over time.  Traditions are important to remember and pass along to new generations.  What are your family traditions? 

For me, this session was a perfect way to kick off the holiday season (and the season of in-home sessions, thanks Michigan).  With a new home, a two-year-old son, and one more child on the way, the Nerowski's are starting new traditions.  Saturday morning pancakes (with whip cream & sprinkles, duh).

As a photographer,  I am thankful for the families that choose me to capture their moments.  This family has been with me from the start ((HUGS!)).  I look back at some of my earliest sessions and I want to bury my head; I had NO idea what I was doing.  So it humbles me when families continue to book sessions year after year.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you. THANK YOU.

The first question inquiring families ask me is "what if my kids are crazy and don't cooperate during our session?" My quick answer: THAT'S OKAY.  Life isn't perfect. Your kids run around and throw tantrums from time-to-time. I'm probably going to take pictures of that. I love those photos. They are real life and the moments you'll want to remember (eventually).

During the session I am sharing below, big sister Allie loved to pick her nose. THAT'S OKAY. Big brother Emmett wasn't really interested in his baby sister and only wanted to play with his toy ball. THAT'S OKAY. Mom and dad were super relaxed and I was able to capture this family perfectly, despite a few boogers and toy balls.

Here are a few quick tips for making your family session perfect:
1. Happy kids are well-rested and have full stomachs. Let's make sure your session works around their nap schedule. If the kids are hungry, we will stop for a snack!
2. Prepare your child for the session by letting them know a friend will be taking their photos. It's best not to surprise them.
3. Relax & go with the flow. If you're relaxed, your kids will relax. Don't stress if someone is picking their nose. Laugh it off :)

It’s not work if you’re having fun, right?
 
This family was tons of fun!  When I arrived, I was immediately transported to my childhood. Nolan and Steven, the two older brothers, we’re playing in their room and the family’s newest edition, Camryn, was sleeping in her swing. I was right at home, especially because when I say playing, I mean they were wrestling.
 
When I told the boys they could jump on the bed, their eyes lit up! As expected, jumping on the bed led to more wrestling. More wrestling led to the boys fixing their hair!
 
My favorite part of the session was snapping a few photos of just mom and dad in the hallway at the end of the session.
