I am excited to capture you and your loved ones. Lifestyle photography is unique because it not only captures what you look like at a certain point in time, it captures who you are. My goal is to have fun and capture authentic photos of your family and children. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your session with me.

Location: Together, we will decide on the best location for your photos. We can shoot in your home as long as your home has adequate natural light.  Many clients prefer their home because of the intimate and personal feel it provides.  If we choose your home, I like to document a favorite family activity - does everyone help make breakfast on Saturday mornings?  Or every weekend do you go to a local park?  If we do an in-home session, start to think of a ritual you'd like to me capture.   On the other hand, I have many outdoor locations that I love to shoot at regularly but I am always open to new locations as well.  You should choose a location that fits your style and personality. I can help you along with this decision.

Time:  If we are shooting in your home, I prefer late morning, because that is when homes are usually lit up the best. If we are shooting outdoors we will shoot in the evening. The light is typically too harsh mid day. If your children are up for it, shooting one to two hours before sunset provides gorgeous light and atmosphere.  The time of day your session takes place has a huge impact on the look and feel of your photos.  Many families tell me that they simply have the kids take a late nap or have some down time prior to their evening session.

Length Of Session: The good news is, I am super fast!  My family sessions rarely last more than an hour.  Don't worry, I can easily get a diverse and adequate gallery in that time.

What To Wear: Wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are.  I do not recommend matching but rather coordinating.  I am currently offering personalized styling that is quick, easy, and can be done from your couch (yesss!)  It is super simple – go to https://styleandselect.com/questionnaire/, enter access code 7516o448, and fill out the short questionnaire about your family, the colors you want to wear, and the vibe of clothes you’d like to see – and voila!  The results page shows you tons of options for each family member that would look great. You can view the outfits side-by-side once you have favorited your pieces.  Click the email button to send yourself the selected items or shop for the clothes right away by clicking the shopping cart buttons (ps. you probably have similar pieces in your closet right now!) The site is an amazing visual tool to see what looks great together. No more running store to store and no more guessing what will look good the day of your session!  As always, I am happy to consult you directly on wardrobe if you are interested.  Just let me know :)

Props: I do not use props during my sessions, however if you have something in mind please let me know.

Your Children: Remember that children are not usually fond of being told to pose or smile. It is best if we just give the children time to relax and try to capture their natural self. Don't worry if your child is running about and active, most of the images you see of young children on my site were captured while the child or toddler was busy playing and exploring. To get family shots, I will direct the family, ask the kids questions, play games, make funny faces, etc.   Try not to stress out about your child's behavior during the session.  I know it can be difficult and frustrating if they are misbehaving.  I promise your photographs will be 10x better if you can keep your cool, smile, and go with the flow :)

Session Prep: To get the most out of your session, make sure that your little one has rested and has had adequate snacks and water. We can take breaks for snacks and play, however I will probably still shoot during the breaks. Bring dry, non messy snacks so their little faces stay clean during the session.  Prepare the child for the session by letting them know that a friend will be taking some photos of them, it's best not to surprise them.

Please arrive on time or be ready to start on time: Remember, your session is scheduled according to light.  It is important that we start on time.  Please plan for traffic or parking constraints.  It's best to arrive early.

Post-Session Expectations: Within 3 weeks of your session, a private, password protected gallery will be available to view your images.  Images will be included in both color and black and white.  Your gallery will be available for viewing and downloading for 4 weeks.  You may share your gallery link with family and friends.  Please back-up your files.

Session Fee:  A Deposit Invoice and Remaining Balance Invoice will be emailed via Square (check your junk box!)  Please pay the Deposit Invoice ASAP.  The Remaining Balance Invoice is not due until the day of your session.

Session Form:  Please fill out the session form HERE.  This will provide me with a little more information about your family and ensure we are on the same page.

Feel free to email with any questions you might have.  Thank you and I look forward to capturing you soon!
